Leanne Wright joined George Mason University in September 2022 and is currently the Director of Laboratory Safety within Safety, Emergency, & Enterprise Risk Management. Prior to joining Mason, Leanne oversaw Environmental Health and Safety at American University in Washington, D.C. During her ten years at American, she provided hands-on safety training on a wide range of safety topics, including: ergonomics, bloodborne pathogens, hearing protection laboratory safety, and art safety. Leanne drove continuous improvement to the university’s laboratory safety initiatives and served as Radiation Safety Officer and Chemical Hygiene Officer. From 2020 to 2022, she built and led the university’s COVID-19 contact tracing team, and served as a public health and pandemic response advisor to campus leadership. Leanne graduated from William & Mary with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston with a Master’s degree in Public Health. She is a Certified Safety Professional and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager.
